  • Biography*: 5 November 1969, RR#1, Roslin, Hastings, On, Can, Dear Mrs Weaver,
It was nive to get your letter and to know that their is still some one left that is interested in the Jordan name. If I were to write all the many things I can remember about my father's family it would indeed make quite a large tree. It is right that my father and Maria were brother and sister. And she did marry David Tripp. He married the second time and had five children. Three sons and two daughters. I can't remember for sure how many were Aunt Maria's but I believe the three boys Joe, Will & Sam. Ida and Elsie were the girls names. I remember them all well and the three boys and Ida left home for other parts. Elsie married a home boy nd died not long after. Sam came home in later years and married and took over his father's fram and died quite a long time ago. David & Maria were buried in the Anglican cemetery in Roslin. the Tripps lived in three miles from our home and we visited back and forth often in those days. So much for the Tripps. I am the only one left of a family of six. My father bought the farm across the road from home when he married and looked after Grandpa & Grandma and worked their farm too. Grandpa wasn't well for some time before he died. He used to have Grandma put out a red flag if she needed anything in the day time and had her put a light in the window at night if she needed him. Father and mother got up in turns about twice in the night to watch for that light. After he died Grandma visited a lot till she died. I think six of there family must have died before my time as I don't remember them. With my father I attended Uncle Thomas, Uncle Joseph, Uncle Alexander and Aunt Ann Jane's funerals and my father's the last of a family of eleven.
Thomas lived in Melrose, Alex in Deseronto, Joe on a farm close to Belleville, Ann Jane on a farm about three miles from home. I can stand in my window and door and look on my fathers birth palce, and my home before I was married. There was a log house on it till 1906. he gave it to his son and he tore the log house down and put up a frame one. Every one has passed on so both farms are in strange hands now. I had Grandpa and Grandmother's bible given to me when my father died and am sending you a couple of pages. It was a well read bible for most of the pages are loose. I wasn't the person who wrote these births down. A lovely writer. My mother and Grandpa/Grnadma all died close together. I was only eight years old when she died and left six children. Father kep't us all together till we married. I stayed with him till I was 27. My brother got married four months after I did too and settled on the next farm and had one child a boy who has 7 children two married and five in school yet. The oldest 22 and the youngest 8 years. I am in my seventy eighth year and pretty old to be writing letters so you will have to excuse all the mistakes as it is a long time since I went to school and they didn't learn then like they do now. I have my own part of the home. My husband died eight years ago in August. I sure missed him. I cannot tell you what years Granpa & Grandma died in but it is in my father's bible and on the tombstones so if you would like to know I could get it for you. My mother died in 1901. If you write again tell me who your mother and Grandmother are? Best of luck Mrs. Gertie Cockins RR#1 Roslin Ont.
